Who is the online Security Awareness course for?
The Security Awareness course is meant for all seafarers on board ISPS vessels (>500GT and passenger ships) who are not directly assigned security duties according to the ship security plan. When starting a career in the maritime industry, you will always be faced with the mandatory STCW training requirements before boarding, even as a pianist, rating or hostess on a cruise ship.
What is a Security Awareness course?
The Security Awareness course is designed to train crew to contribute to the improvement of maritime security through increased awareness and the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to security threats. This applies to all seafarers. During this training, participants are taught how to respond to a security threat. As a seafarer, you may encounter theft, piracy or terrorism. It is therefore very important to be well informed about the security of the ship, crew and cargo.
The training meets the following standards and training requirements and takes c.a. 4 hours to complete (including online ID check):
- Regulation 13.4 (Part B) and 18.3 (Part B) of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
- IMO Model Course 3.27 Security Awareness Training for all seafarers (edition 2012).
- STCW 1978, as amended, Regulation VI / 6.1-3 en STCW-code, section A-VI / 6.4.
Online Security Awareness course from Rood Boven Groen

In your own environment, time and at your own pace, you can acquire the theoretical knowledge by following this training and taking the exam online. An internet connection, PC, laptop or i-pad are needed for the training.

You can tailor the training to suit your needs by spending more or less time on certain subjects. The exam can be taken when you are ready, increasing your chances of passing.
