STCW course; what is it?
The STCW course is approved by the Dutch government. In the Netherlands, this is done by the Netherlands Shipping Inspectorate (NSI). The NSI is responsible for the control and supervision of maritime training providers. The guidelines under which the NSI operates were drawn up by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) at the STCW Convention, an international treaty on the minimum requirements that seafarers on professional and commercial ships must meet in terms of training, certification and watchkeeping. STCW stands for Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping. The purpose of these regulations is to ensure the safety and health of all employees on board a ship.
Rood Boven Groen is the first training institute approved by the Dutch government to offer, among others, the Security Awareness training, which is approved under the Dutch flag (Regulations V1/6, paragraph 1,2 & 3 and section A-V1/6.4), fully online in an e-learning environment. There is a secure ID check built into the Security Awareness training that makes it possible to follow the online training anytime, anywhere.
Online STCW course from Rood Boven Groen
The online STCW course puts you in control. In your own environment and at a time and pace that suits your needs, you can acquire the theoretical knowledge, follow the course and take the exam online. An internet connection and a PC, laptop or I-pad are needed for the training. If you purchase multiple courses, it is also possible to follow the training offline.
The training fits easily around other work and personal commitments and can be tailored to your own training needs by spending more or less time on certain topics. The exam can be taken when you feel ready, increasing your chances of passing. You can feel good about taking an online because it has a smaller carbon footprint than location-based training.

The STCW course offered by Rood Boven Groen does not necessarily need to be repeated after a number of years. However, there are shipping companies that do expect this from their personnel on board to keep all knowledge up to date and further develop their skills.
