Expansion RBG team

Since the 28th of January our office welcomed a new college, Willem Starke. Willem will focus on ISM and ISPS activities for the merchant shipping and training, with which he can take over a number of tasks from Stephan. He has more than 20 years of experience in the shipping industry (Maritime officer, Class surveyor, technical / operational manager) and with his knowledge we also expect to be able to fill in the, increasingly heard, demand for technical and operational support.

Approval DSD and SA of Rood Boven Groen

We are proud to announce that our training DESIGNATED SECURITY DUTIES is again approved by the Netherlands Shipping Inspectorate (NSI) without any remarks. This means, that for the next 5 years we can continue to offer our top class training in the classroom, at nautical schools, and on board.

Our computer based training, SECURITY AWARENESS was also approved by the NSI without any remarks in regards to the content of the training. However, a system to guarantee an adequate identification of the student, whilst acting according to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was not evident. We are making every effort to change this because we passionately believe in e-learning. We believe in offering our training without time and location constraints, which is especially suitable for the maritime industry with its constant and dynamic training needs.

Recovery of persons from the water

The RescueNet of Waterworks and Rood Boven Groen is appreciated by more and more customers. Recently, we have been able to supply three updated nets to a customer who already has 4 pieces in use. Since July 2014, ships must have a procedure in accordance with SOLAS Regulation III / I7-1 on how to rescue persons from the water. Often a lifeboat or rescue boat is used, but it still was not easy to get a person back on board as horizontally as possible. With a RescueNet in the dinghy this becomes much safer and very easy. A short 'live-footage' can be found on youtube.

With its small size and weight, it fits all rescue boats, and only costs 1 / 5th of a Jason Cradle

Approval online STCW training RBG by Dutch Ministry

29 May 2018 - In order to serve the ever-changing market and to react effectively to the growing demand of STCW trainings for international passenger vessels, Rood Boven Groen has, in association with Skillsafe and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, developed a complete new concept:

During the online training, onboard or at home, the student can study in his/her own time and at their own pace. After a short theoretical test, the contents of the training will be exercised onboard. With a Captain’s letter the student can request a certificate.

This new form of training has several advantages: The Shipping Company and the student have no travel or hotel costs, the student determines his own timing and learning curve and last but not least this way of training includes practical training on board.

Rood Boven Groen is the first Company in the Netherlands that has achieved an approval for STCW online trainings. We offer Crowd Management, Passenger Safety-Cargo Safety-Hull Integrity and Company Security Officer online at www.rbg-training.com. More courses will follow after successful evaluation.

MLC 2014 amendments

5 February 2018 - As per 1 February 2018 the MLC amendments 2014 have come into force for The Netherlands. The Dutch Flag State has made a declaration, which states that all current MLC certificates remain valid until the first renewal inspection after 1 February 2018. This statement can be found here.

The new DMLC Part I must be on board during the upcoming renewal audit together with the new DMLC Part II including items 15 and 16. We advise you to review the new DMLC Part II together with your regular Flag State inspector for approval prior to the renewal audit. After approval a review letter will be made available, which you can show during the MLC inspection.

During the MLC inspection, the inspector will use the letter to verify if the DMLC Part II on board is identical with the reviewed version. If all is satisfactory he can focus on the on-board implementation. Upon successful completion of the inspection, the new DMLC Part II will be endorsed by the attending inspector and a new MLC certificate will be issued.

For vessels that do not require a MLC certificate but are under a 3-yearly regime of the Dutch Flag it is highly recommended that they also have the new DMLC Part I on board as well as DMLC Part II including items 15 and 16. The new DMLC Part I can be found on the website of ILenT.
